O’Gorman senior Taten Mauney is your 2025 ‘AA’ boys state golf champion. He shot two-under par at the state tournament at Meadowbrook in Rapid City this week to claim the individual title.

For the second straight year, Dakota Valley has won a boys state golf championship. Even though the Panthers were the defending champions coming into this season, they graduated three seniors from last year’s squad. The season presented some struggles, but when it mattered the most Dakota Valley locked in to defend their crown.

The 2025 SDHSAA Class AA and A boys golf championships concluded on Tuesday, October 7th, from Rapid City and Vermillion. Harrisburg and Dakota Valley won the team titles.

One of the first officers of the South Dakota High School Athletic Directors Association when it formed in 1973, Merlin helped launch girls track and wrestling programs, coached basketball and football, and served as both principal and athletic director. He spent 31 years in the Wall School District. Joined by his wife, Mary Jane, Merlin—now 90—may not recall every moment, but his passion for the kids and the Wall community remains as strong as ever.
