Tribes of Dakota: Grandma Dora

Dakota Digest - 10/05/2006

Until the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, it was mandatory for all Native American children to attend boarding schools. While they were given a free education, this forced separation could sometimes tear families apart. Today on Dakota Digest, SDPB’s Frances Linn interviews Dora Brugier, from the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, about her experience when the missionaries first came to take her to school.
