The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has released the 2022 spring flood outlook. It covers northeast South Dakota and portions of the central part of the state. Conditions have been dry across most of that area.
“We don’t have much snow on the ground," says Kelly Serr, a Warning Coordination Meteorologist. "It’s been a pretty light year in terms of snowfall, and so when it comes to the spring flooding, that’s one of the biggest factors. Most of the region has a lower-than-normal risk for flooding along the rivers and streams across South Dakota.”
The exceptions are Brown and Spink counties. The James River flows out of North Dakota where they’ve had above normal snowfall.
