DOT deploys temporary traffic signals ahead of Sturgis Rally

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally starts Friday, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation is getting the roadways prepared in advanced for increased traffic.

Temporary traffic signals are activated at various locations around Sturgis and the Black Hills starting Tuesday, July 30.

Those signals can be found at the following locations:

• S.D. Highway 34/79 and Nellie Avenue
• S.D. Highway 34/79 and Ft. Meade main entrance
• S.D. Highway 34/79 and Glencoe Drive
• S.D. Highway 34 and S.D. Highway 79 east of Sturgis
• S.D. Highway 34 and Ft. Meade Way (Buffalo Chip)
• S.D. Highway 44 and U.S. Highway 385
• U.S. Highway 16 and U.S. Highway 385 east of Hill City
• S.D. Highway 34/79 and 8th Street in Sturgis
• S.D. Highway 34/79 and 11th Street in Sturgis
• Interstate 90 exit 32 westbound ramp
• Interstate 90 exit 32 eastbound ramp
• Interstate 90 exit 55 eastbound ramp

Some highway sections also have reduced speeds from Aug. 1 through Aug. 11.

Additionally the DOT is pausing construction on Highway 385 from July 31 through August 12. All lanes will be open to traffic with speed reductions in effect through the construction zones.

Roadways under construction are mostly sealed rock with some sections of gravel. Officials are asking drivers to use caution in these areas.
