Crews mopping up Bennett Wildfire in southern Black Hills

The Bennett Wildfire scorched hundreds of acres in the southern Black Hills in August of 2024.

More than 100 fire personnel from across the region are continuing work to mop up the Bennett Wildfire in the southern Black Hills.

The fire has burned 367 acres since it was detected on Thursday. The Forest Service said it’s 90 percent contained.

It’s located about eight miles northwest of Edgemont. Officials say it was sparked by lightning.

As of Monday, there are still currently 110 fire personnel from across the region, including those from throughout South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Multiple agencies and volunteer fire departments are supporting the effort to suppress the fire.

The Bennett fire hasn’t prompted any evacuations or road closures.
