New findings show Capitol Lake in Pierre is in better condition than previously thought.
Dan Seeley is the state Commissioner for the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration. He said an evaluation showed positive findings for the lake.
“We had a company come in that had the specialized tools to do a well evaluation. And they were able to get a camera down through the well, and the well condition was much better than we thought. The video showed the well, for its age, is really in excellent condition and water quality that we’re getting up through the aquifer is fine,” Seeley said.
He also said despite the news – plans for improvements are still in the works.
“We’ll review and assess kinda what needs to be done and what updates and improvements should be pursued in the next few months probably in relationship to this. But with the well being in the shape it is, we don’t have the same level of urgency that once we thought we needed,” Seeley said.
The findings come at a good time for the state legislature – as a tight budget would have made funding the lake’s improvements difficult.
