Two people are dead after an ice fishing accident in north central South Dakota.
The victims’ vehicle fell through the ice while they were fishing on the Missouri River south of Mobridge Wednesday evening, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.
A children’s fishing tournament scheduled this weekend near Akaska was postponed due to the accident.
This comes days after authorities in northeast South Dakota warned of thin ice on lakes in Day County.
South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks recommends ice be at least 12 inches thick before you drive a vehicle on it – though 16 inches is preferred.
