Gov. Larry Rhoden is filling a legislative vacancy that’s been open since the start of session.
Tim Czmowski is being appointed to a House seat in District 6, which represents parts of Lincoln County, including Harrisburg and Tea.
The Republican has 40 years of experience in the cheese industry, according to the governor’s office. Prior to that, he graduated from SDSU and served in the South Dakota National Guard for 10 years and was recognized as the “Battalion Soldier of the Year” in 1986. He also served as the chairman of the Grant County Republican Party from 1998 to 2004.
“I am grateful for Governor Rhoden trusting my abilities and giving me the privilege to serve the people of District 6 and South Dakota,” Czmowski said. “I will approach these duties similar to my past business and public service experience. I believe in clear, open communications to gather information from all perspectives to determine the best decision amongst the choices available.”
Czmowski is taking the seat vacated by Herman Otten, who resigned prior to the 2025 session for personal and family reasons.
