Brookings city, county and school district officials are partnering to secure the Fifth Street Gym for community use.
The partnership aims to address a need for indoor recreation space in the community.
Brookings officials say acquiring the gym provides a consistent gym space for leagues, camps and activities, as well as expand opportunities for programs like pickleball and volleyball.
Funds for maintaining the gym come out of existing Brookings Parks, Recreation and Forestry Capital Improvement Plan, meaning no new funding is required.
The next steps are getting Brookings City Council and School Board approval.
