SDPB Announces New Radio Station in Mitchell

SDPB Radio is proud to announce the latest addition to the network, KWSD 89.1FM, has officially signed on the air.

“SDPB is thrilled to be able to serve Mitchell and the surrounding area with a strong signal,” said Julie Overgaard, Executive Director of SDPB. “This is an area we have wanted to better serve for quite some time, and we’re happy we can finally provide a strong signal. SDPB Radio is a vital resource, offering local news, information, and programming from across the nation.”

The latest full-power radio station in the SDPB Radio network serves communities within approximately 30 miles of Mitchell, including Parkston, Ethan, Armour, Stickney, Plankinton, Woonsocket, Roswell, Salem, Alexandria, Bridgewater, and others.

“While we have served the community of Mitchell with the low-power translator for the past several years, we’re happy to finally be able to serve Mitchell and the surrounding area with a full-power transmitter,” said SeVern Ashes, SDPB Director of Engineering. “Listeners will be able to hear KWSD at 89.1 FM. We continue to stream our signal online and through the SDPB app.”

SDPB Radio is a statewide network, based in Vermillion, that provides commercial-free public radio programming. The schedule, available online at SDPB.org/Schedules, includes national programs like Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, and This American Life, and local programs like In the Moment, Jazz Nightly, and On Record. SDPB also offers statewide news and coverage of the South Dakota legislature.

Ryan Howlett, CEO of Friends of SDPB, said, “We would not have been able to put KWSD-FM on the air as part of the SDPB Radio network without the enthusiastic help from many individual and corporate supporters in and around Mitchell. We hope listeners will tune into their radio station and enjoy the variety of programming KWSD and SDPB Radio offers.”
