Since 2003, StoryCorps has traveled the country recording conversations between friends and family. In 2007, the StoryCorps traveling booth stopped in Sioux Falls and Joe Henkin interviewed his mother. Sylvia Henkin is a South Dakota broadcasting pioneer and community volunteer. She's often called the grande dame of Sioux Falls. She grew up in Sheldon, Iowa were her father, a Jewish immigrant from Russia, ran the Wolff Brothers Department Store. He died when Sylvia was five months old and she and her mother became the responsibility of her two older brothers.
