Recorded StoryCorps conversation with Joe Saracco and Kathy Kandt. Since 2003, StoryCorps has traveled the country recording conversations between friends and family. In September and October, the StoryCorps traveling booth was in Rapid City. Among those stopping by to share a conversation were friends Joe Saracco (62) and Kathy Kandt (71) who talked about growing up gay in South Dakota. They discuss Joe’s development as a gay rights activist in America during the early 1970’s and about the first time he felt that he wasn’t alone in the struggle for equality.
