In September and October the StoryCorps traveling booth was in Rapid City collecting conversations between family and friends. Randall Keith Horn talked with his wife Christy Ann Horn and shared memories of his first wife, Sherry, who suffered from the rare neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome.
For nearly a decade doctors were unable to diagnose Sherry’s problem. Some even suggested that it was a psychological condition. As a U.S. Air Force communications officer, Randall had to frequently move his family, which only made his wife’s condition worse. While at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, a doctor suggested that Randall take Sherry to the University of Miami Medical Center. He thought it would just be a further waste of time.
