Performing songs from the 2013 cd "A Sunshine State of Mind," The Soul of John Black owned the stage at the Historic Orpheum Theater in Sioux Falls last March - a presentation of the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society. With themes like answered prayers, the perpetual California sunshine and the love of family, "A Sunshine State of Mind" proves that the blues can lift one's soul. The Soul of John Black is essentially the stage name of guitarist/vocalist John Bigham (JB to his friends). Prior to forming The Soul of John Black with Christopher Thomas in 2002, Bigham played in Fishbone and also worked with Miles Davis and Everlast. He began playing guitar in his early teens and quickly fell in love with Sly and the Family Stone and the Rolling Stones - adding there was no turning away from the guitar once he was turned onto Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. You won't want to miss this concert's encore, "East LA Lady," which still has the Orpheum's stage smoldering!
