The five members of Pert Near Sandstone take traditional American string band music and infuse it with a contemporary, raw energy. The band was formed a decade ago and recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with a performance at First Avenue in Minneapolis.
In 2008, Pert Near Sandstone was hand-picked by Garrison Keillor to appear as the featured musical guest on A Prairie Home Companion. Before the show Garrison proclaimed that, “The group has become a force on the Minnesota roots music scene and beyond.”
Pert Near Sandstone hits the road this week for a short tour that includes a performance at the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish on Sunday, December 7th. Pert Near Sandstone’s fiddler and mandolin player Nate Sipe joined Dakota Midday.
