"Arctic Ghost Ship" premieres Wednesday on NOVA (8:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. MT on SDPB-TV). In 1845, British explorer Sir John Franklin set out to chart the Northwest Passage, commanding 128 men in two robust and well-stocked Royal Navy ships, the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. They were never heard from again. Then, last September, an official Parks Canada expedition finally located the Erebus in approximately 35 feet of water. In "Arctic Ghost Ship," NOVA tells the story of Franklin's journey and the risky Canadian expedition which culminated in the historic discovery of the Erebus. SDPB's Steve Zwemke visited with Chris Schmidt, senior producer for NOVA at WGBH, for a preview of the gripping story of Franklin's ill-fated expedition.
