South Dakota's first governor was elected November 2nd 1889. Arthur Mellette, his wife Maggie and 4 sons lived in what is called the Mellette House in which Arthur built in 1885. This house was bought and sold many times ultimately abandoned and condemned in 1943. The Mellette Memorial Association purchased the home for $500, still owns the house and continues to repair it. Prudy Calvin is president of the Mellette Memorial Association and joins us for more.
