This ranch was homesteaded in 1888 by Ole Bien.
Neil Bien is in his 63rd year preserving wetlands and native grasslands and joins us today for a conversation about land management and the people who inspired the way he cares for the land today.
The Bien Ranch is located 65 miles northeast of Aberdeen in Veblen.
This award is given in honor of Aldo Leopold, a renowned conservationist. It is presented annually by The Sand County Foundation, American Farmland Trust, South Dakota Cattlemen's Association, and The South Dakota Grassland Coalition.
The $10,000 award will officially be presented to the Bien Family in December at the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association Annual Convention.
