Aberdeen’s Storybook Land will host its annual festival July 21 and 22.
The festival contains music performances, a film screening of The Adam’s Family, arts and crafts, face painting, children’s authors and costumed characters.
Storybook Land does not charge admission. Funding for the festival comes from fundraising efforts and sponsors including the Arts Council, Aberdeen Library and private donations.
This year the festival features children’s author Martika Daniels. She wrote The Amazing Martika, a story about a girls dream of being in the circus. The book is based on Daniels’ childhood. Organizers say she will perform an act that compliments the book.
David Eckert is the supervisor of the Aberdeen recreation and cultural center. He says the Storybook Land Festival has taken place every year since 2006. Eckert says the amusement park is a big part of Wylie Park’s character.
“We think about it being for kids. And it is for kids, but it is for whole for anybody,” said Eckert. “I mean it’s amazing even the middle school and high school kids that you will see walking around the park and just enjoying it, adults, senior adults. I mean it really has a draw that transcends the ages and various generations.”
