Gov. Kristi Noem is hosting the annual lighting ceremony for Christmas at the Capitol Tuesday evening.
The display includes 90 Christmas trees decorated by communities, schools, churches and nonprofits across the state. The largest, a 27-foot Black Hills Spruce, is being decorated by the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House in Sioux Falls and was donated by Isaac Lalonde of Onida.
“This is always one of my favorite events of the year,” Noem said in a press release. “Bryon and I can’t wait to greet all of the families at the Capitol for our annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. We hope you can join us for an evening of festive fun!”
This year, the trees will be lit by the Harris family. Noem said they’re being honored for their dedication to fostering and adoption.
The lighting ceremony begins at 7 p.m. CST/6 p.m. MST. SDPB is livestreaming the event at SD.net.
Visitors can view the display 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily beginning Wednesday. The last day to view the trees is Dec. 26.
