For the first time in 30 years, lions return to the Great Plains Zoo.
Zoogoers flocked to see Simba and Amahle at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday that recognized the occasion.
Joel Locke is the director of animal care at the Sioux Falls zoo. He said Amahle is quite the character.
“She’s super playful, but she’s also very sassy. I would say she looks like she’s a body builder. You can see about every muscle in her body, and so for that aspect she’s the playful one,” Locke said.
Her male counterpart is a little more reserved. Locke said Simba is like any other guy.
“He’s more chill, more relaxed. Typical guy super into the girl, the girl’s not really into him yet. He’s just waiting for her to turn around so that she wants to be into him as well,” Locke said.
The pair can be seen indoors as the zoo preps the lions to transition outside.
