Rapid City Arts Council receives NEA Big Read grant

This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

The Rapid City Arts Council is one of 62 organizations nationwide selected to receive a 2024-2025 National Endowment for the Arts Big Read grant.

The grant will fund a community reading program in collaboration with the Rapid City Public Library.

"The Bear" by Andrew Krivak was chosen for the program. It's a post-apocalyptic story of human extinction, wild spaces and myths as teachers and mentors. The novel asks deep questions about how to behave when we are the last of our kind.

Jacqui Dietrich is the executive director of the Rapid City Arts Council. She takes us into the pages of "The Bear" and previews what's happening in Rapid City as the community comes together for one big read.
