Women's Adventure Film Tour coming to the Black Hills

A collection of short films featuring women adventuring in the outdoors is screening at the Custer Beacon in February.

Black Hills Parks and Forests Association is hosting the Women’s Adventure Film Tour on Feb. 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in partnership with the nonprofit SheJumps and Wilderness Volunteers.

The screening is free to the public and sponsored by a grant from the Zonta Club of the Southern Black Hills.

"We want to celebrate women, the outdoor adventures. We want to help bring together a community that shares a passion for adventures here, and connect women who are interested in outdoor activities to each other," said Andrea Fountain, the program and volunteer manager at Black Hills Parks and Forests Association.

Fountain says that in addition to celebrating women in the outdoors, the film screening brings awareness to upcoming stewardship opportunities in the region.

"Black Hills Parks and Forests and Wilderness Volunteers have teamed up to offer women-only stewardship projects in our partner locations Black Hills National Forest and Buffalo Gap National Grassland," said Fountain. "We're going to be working on some major projects in both of those landscapes. And we want to highlight the projects and hopefully inspire people to get out and go on their own adventure."

The film tour features eight short films about women of different backgrounds and ages from around the world. Fountain is open to hosting similar events in the future if there is interest.

"I think we'll get a lot of people coming to the door, you know, not just women, I hope they bring their families and I hope it's a community event," Fountain said. "Even though we're telling stories about women. This isn't just for women. It's for for everyone to celebrate adventure."
