
U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson has announced Pierre’s Magnus Weber as the winner of South Dakota’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition.
Weber is a currently a Senior at T.F. Riggs High school. He produced the winning piece, “Fragments of Freedom”, which is an abstract work.
As South Dakota’s winner, Weber’s artwork will be on display in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol for the entire year. Weber’s work will be accompanied by winning pieces from other congressional districts.
Katherine Kretchman, a home-schooled senior, claimed second place with her oil-on-canvas piece. Her artwork will be displayed in the Congressman’s office in Washington D.C.
“I’m always amazed by the talent of South Dakota’s young artists,” Johnson said. “The submissions we received showcase their skills and creativity. Congratulations to Magnus and Katherine, your art will represent South Dakota well in Congress," said Johnson.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and is sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. South Dakota’s competition is supported by the South Dakota Arts Council, which partners with Rep. Johnson’s office.
