Broadway Star Audra McDonald to Perform at SDSU

Acclaimed singer and actress Audra McDonald is coming to Brookings on Tuesday, February 23 for a concert presented by Woodbine Productions at the SDSU Performing Arts Center.

Yesterday, she joined Dakota Midday and discussed taking care of her voice during winter and the challenges of portraying Billie Holiday. You can listen to the full interview here.

McDonald has won six Tony Awards. Her most recent came for last year's performance as legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. She received her first Tony in 1994 for her role in a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.

The Juilliard-trained soprano's opera credits include La voix humaine and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. On television, she was recently seen as the Mother Abbess in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! and played Dr. Naomi Bennett on ABC’s Private Practice for four seasons. She has received Emmy nominations for Wit, A Raisin in the Sun, and her role as official host of PBS’s Live From Lincoln Center.

She has made many television appearances and is a two-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist.
