Two Sioux Falls businesses teamed up last month to help local dog rescues. Financial media company MarketBeat collaborated with Remedy Brewing to create MarketBrew, a limited-edition beer.
For each beer sold in May, one dollar was donated to Sioux Empire Pit Rescue and B-Squad Dog Rescue.
Maureen Ohm is the chief of staff for MarketBeat and says the response was overwhelming.
“One of the coolest things to hear was actually from the brewer, from Remedy. They said that this is the highest amount of any single brand of beer that they've sold in one month,” she said. “We had so many people rallying around these dog rescues. It was all good vibes. It was an awesome month.”
Over fifteen thousand five hundred beers were sold and MarketBeat decided to add an extra donation, bringing the total to 25 thousand dollars. The money will be split between the two charities.
Ashley Bartholomaus volunteers with Sioux Empire Pit Rescue. It's a small organization that fosters rescued pitbulls. She says the help is appreciated.
“We'll do a couple big fundraisers a year and we have, you know, hopes of making certain amounts of dollars. There's a lot of effort involved in those,” she said. “So, to have an organization step up and say, no, we're going to take care of organizing this and we're just going to give you the money when it's done, was kind of mind blowing.”
Bartholomaus says the money will go toward spay and neuter programs, community education, medical care, and their foster program.
