University of South Dakota senior basketball star Ciara Duffy received an honorable mention from the Associated Press as part of their All-American awards for NCAA women’s basketball.
“This is simply a remarkable honor for an incredibly special young lady,” said USD head women’s basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit. “We are all absolutely thrilled for Ciara, for her teammates, for our program, for the University of South Dakota, and for the Summit League.”
The St. Thomas More alum and Rapid City native is also a three-time Academic All-American with a consistent 4.0 grade point average through undergraduate and now in pursuit of a master’s degree.
Throughout her senior campaign, Duffy averaged over 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, and five assists per game. She finishes her career as the No. 3 all-time scorer in University of South Dakota women’s basketball history.
Duffy was also named as the Summit League’s conference player of the year for women’s basketball. ESPNW also honored her by naming her the mid-major player of the year.
The USD Coyote women’s basketball team finished the 2019-20 season with a 30-2 record, which included a regular season Summit League title and a Summit League Tournament championship, which earned the team an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They were also ranked No. 17 nationally by the Associated Press and No. 11 in the national coaches poll.
With the recent spread of the COVID-19 virus, all post-season NCAA tournaments have been canceled. Additionally, the Summit League has suspended play for all of its spring athletics.
