Amateur baseball was supposed to start its league play this week in South Dakota, but then a decision was made to postpone the regular season games for another two weeks.
Because safety is a top concern among all sports organizations as the present time, the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association wanted to show what precautions they’re taking to keep their players safe. They released a list of nine safety measures that the league is implementing.
- Players will be allowed to stand outside the dugout during the game
- Umpires can either stand behind home plate or behind the pitchers mound to call balls and strikes
- Batting Gloves are required when batting
- Players are encouraged to NOT share equipment
- During mound visits, players must stay six feet apart.
- Fans attending will be urged to wear masks
- The dugouts will have hand sanitizer in them
- No post-game handshakes, players will tip their caps instead
- Before each game, the PA announcer will read safety guidelines
Teams can currently participate in non-league games, but the official start to ‘in-state’ league play won’t start until May 31st.
