A nonprofit says it’s reached 1 million pounds of donated meat since 1989.
Sportsmen Against Hunger helps hunters donate their game meat to South Dakotans in need.
Jeff Olson has been with the organization for over 30 years. He says with the help of the Department of Game Fish and Parks, the organization has come a long way.
“One pound of burger can feed a family of four, so 4 million meals fed to people in South Dakota.”
Olson says the organization donated 20,000 pounds of meat last fall and winter.
“3,200 pounds just this year in geese, geese burger, to those in need.”
But Sportsmen Against Hunger has concerns.
Chronic Wasting Disease is a deadly brain disease that's spreading in America’s deer population.
The US Senate is considering legislation to address the disease. The act calls for an annual $70 million investment through 2028.
