Nick Langerock points to new technologies on Raven Industries farm equipment.

Governor Kristi Noem said Tuesday she is committed to the state’s agricultural industries and wants to ensure South Dakota is at the forefront of innovation.

Noem moderated an agricultural innovation forum at the Dakotafest trade show in Mitchell.

“One of the things we do best is grow the nation's food," she said. "And doing that on a cost-effective basis is incredibly important.”

One advance in ag technology is autonomous or driverless equipment.

Nick Langerock works with Raven Industries in Sioux Falls. He said tractor technologies are advancing quickly.

“There's no driver in that cab and it really makes people think about how they can change their operation and how they can actually start to use the technology," Langerock said.

Other innovations discussed at the forum include an invisible electric fence for cows, faster internet, and better soil health practices.
