The U.S. Department of Agriculture released statistics that show South Dakota’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the country’s most efficient.
SNAP is designed to help low-income households afford to buy food. The Department of Agriculture researched the number of households that qualify for benefits and how much benefits ought to be received.
South Dakota’s accuracy rate was 97 percent, according to the report. The national average is 88 percent. In a press release, Secretary of the Department of Social Services Matt Althoff reflected on what the recognition means to South Dakota.
“The accuracy rate is a testament of our hard work in ensuring SNAP is operating with integrity within our state. It’s vital that we ensure participants get the benefit amounts they are entitled to, while also prioritizing the efficient and effective use of taxpayer dollars,” said Althoff.
