The Department of Game, Fish, and Parks said its Habitat Stamp program continues to be successful.
That came out in an annual revenue report in a recent Government Operations and Audit Committee meeting.
Tom Kirschenmann is the Director of Wildlife for South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks. He said Habitat Stamp sales have provided funding for multiple projects.
“If an individual buys a hunting license, that those dollars then be used for terrestrial based projects. If they buy a fishing license, it's aquatic-based, and if you buy both types of licenses or a combination license, whatever it might be, then those dollars are split toward both terrestrial and aquatic based projects,” said Kirschenmann.
Habitat Stamp revenue from fiscal year 2023 was over $5 million dollars. Examples of projects funded by this revenue are dam repairs, access roads and trails, and habitat improvement.
