Federal officials have confirmed a new avian influenza outbreak in South Dakota.
The USDA bird flu detection map shows the highly infectious disease was confirmed in a Jerauld County turkey flock on Oct. 4.
The outbreak impacts more than 47,000 birds. The animals will be euthanized to stop the spread of the disease.
It’s the first avian influenza outbreak in the state since April, according to USDA data.
