Thirty-five years in the making, water from the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System now flows directly to the city of Madison.
Crews are “substantially complete” on the million-gallon ground storage reservoir near Madison, Lewis and Clark officials said.
Roy Lindsay is Madison’s Mayor. He said all the hard work and twists and turns were worth it.
“It gives us the ability to sustain the city of Madison into the future and it also gives us the opportunity for economic growth," said Lindsay. "You know for businesses and homes that can move and be a part of Madison.”
City officials are planning a ribbon cutting celebration Aug. 21 at the reservoir. South Dakota’s congressional delegation is scheduled to attend.
Crews are expected to complete the final phase, a water treatment plant near Vermillion, in 2028.
