Sen. Mike Rounds announces $30 million of federal funding is being awarded to the Black Hills region to address affordable housing.

Rounds requested this funding ahead of the expected population growth with the incoming B-21 Raider program at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

“Sen. Rounds has secured a critical step toward ensuring we are well-prepared for the B-21 expansion to Ellsworth Air Force Base. The housing trust funds will help create critical housing infrastructure to take care of our men and women in uniform, their families and other citizens who will arrive with the launch of the B-21 program,” said Scott Landguth, executive director of South Dakota Ellsworth Development Authority.

Funds will establish locally led housing trust funds managed by the Black Hills Area Community Foundation. This is how the foundation has been assisting in the creation of over 550 housing units in Rapid City.

Advisory boards across the Black Hills are being established to combat housing challenges and are providing input to cater to community needs.
