Sioux Falls officials are planning a new identity for Falls Park. The goal is to connect the downtown attractions of Falls Park, Levitt Shell, the River Greenway, Lloyd Landing, and Jacobson Plaza.

Allie Hartzler is the Officer of Communications and Culture for the City of Sioux Falls. She said the new signage has already started going up.

“The Falls is a system of parks designed to create connection with one another and with the world around us. Using this visual identity, we will be adding wayfinding signage from the Levitt to Falls Park to encourage people to visit and move throughout these connected paths and connected parks. You may have noticed this new signage going up in and around Falls Park to reflect this. We started installing the signs on Monday and plan to be finished by the end of this week,” said Hartzler.

The “re-branding” of Falls Park offers a more unified system of downtown parks for tourist and locals alike.

Hartzler said importance was placed on connecting familiar visualization between the parks.

“Falls Park is still Falls Park. ‘The Falls’ is meant to encompass the system of parks in the area. We know that anecdotally that’s what people call it already, so, its just officially putting that stamp on it and creating some visual connection between those spaces,” said Hartzler.

The Falls Park Master Plan will need to receive a final stamp of approval from both the City Council and Park’s and Recreation Board before it is officially adopted.

A public open house outlining the Master Plan is at Startup Sioux Falls Thursday, November 21st.
