Pierre residents are set to see around a $6 increase per month on their utility bill.

The city commission opted to increase electric, water, and wastewater utility rates by 3%.

These increases help cover the cost of infrastructure improvements for electricity, new water meters the city is installing to replace an antiquated system and replace parts at the wastewater treatment plant.

The rate increase takes effect Jan 1.
