Allie Hartzler - Communications and Culture Officer for the City of Sioux Falls

The City of Sioux Falls launches a recruitment campaign to build avenues for interns to learn about important city jobs while getting paid.

The campaign is the first for the city - spanning internship opportunities across all twelve of their departments.

Allie Hartzler is the Communications and Culture Officer for the City of Sioux Falls. She said the city has an unemployment rate of only 1.8% which she said is the lowest in the United States.

One way the city plans to stay competitive in the job market is through the Ascend Internship Program. The program is available for individuals for entry level, supervisor, and management positions across all facets of government.

Public safety and public works are two areas of the program where Hartzler said the most recruitment is needed - the city's current vacancy rate is 4%.

Hartzler said working for the city provides a sense of passion for employees as they see their work helping the city grow and thrive. She also said the city’s benefits are competitive with the private industry.

The campaign began in November and runs through March.
