Marshall County Courthouse is soon to get a $9.6 million dollar facelift.
The facelift includes increasing parking capacity, a building addition, remodeling parts of the current courthouse, and updating current mechanical systems.
The courthouse is in Britton and is estimated to provide over 11,000 square feet of new space.
Matt Schuller is the Marshall County Commission Chairman.
“The sheriff's division to the courthouse, rebuilt. The 911 center, an additional evidence storage and to cells for holding cells. A commission room, and then an elevator. Which will be included on the outside of the building,” said Schuller.
Schuller said the project has been in the works since the early 2000’s.
“In a year, if we hadn’t, this is the original bond issue, if we hadn’t found any uses for the original courthouse that would be demolished. And so, I think the voters spoke and said, ‘no we don’t want to do that,’ and so we decided then to add on,” said Schuller.
The new facility and upgrades are paid in part by the county, reserve funds, grants, voted upon bond, and donations.
Other amenities include accessible restrooms, a jury box, and drinking fountains on each level.
Schuller said the project helps preserve the history of the county while looking forward to new growth. He said the project is on track to be complete by October 2025.
