Three South Dakota chefs are semifinalists for prestigious James Beard Awards.
Marcela Salas is nominated in the “Emerging Chef” category. She owns BibiSol, a newly opened Mexican restaurant in downtown Sioux Falls.
Chris Hammer is nominated in the “Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker” category. He owns CH Patisserie, a bakery that's also in downtown Sioux Falls.
Joseph Raney is nominated in the “Best Chef: Midwest” field. He owns Skogen Kitchen in Custer. He was previously a semifinalist in this category in 2023.
James Beard awards are viewed as one of the highest honors in the culinary world.
“For 35 years, the James Beard Awards have stood as a testament to American food culture and its exceptional talent. What began as a celebration of culinary achievement has evolved into a platform leading chefs and the broader culinary industry towards a new standard of excellence,” said Clare Reichenbach, CEO, James Beard Foundation.
Semifinalists across more than two dozen categories were announced Wednesday. The James Beard Foundation announces the winners June 16.
