U.S. Postal Service officials said they plan to retain processing operations at the Dakota Central facility in Huron.
They also plan to invest up to $3 million in the facility to boost its services.
This comes after a proposal at the federal level that would save the agency $3 billion a year, facilitating its ability to absorb the costs of the Huron location.
Last March, the USPS said they might close both the Huron and Sioux Falls centers and shift distribution activities to Fargo and Omaha instead.
After pushback from lawmakers, citizens, and labor advocates, the agency paused those efforts.
U.S. Senator Mike Rounds re-introduced a bill last week that requires the U.S. Postal Service to consider consequences for rural areas if it contemplates downsizing or closing facilities.
Currently, the agency is not required to consider factors for processing centers as long as closures are more efficient.
