U.S. Highway 385 closure to impact Black Hills summer recreation spots

Construction on U.S. Highway 385 continues this year, impacting recreational facilities in the Black Hills National Forest.

Forest Service officials say they’ll close the Pactola Visitor Center through the summer. But the fishing pier on the west side of Sheridan Lake and Trail 6830 reopens June 14, when construction on that section of the highway is scheduled to be complete.

The project also means drivers should plan ahead to access Pactola Reservoir and Sheridan Lake recreation area.

“For example, if you are planning to recreate on the north side of Sheridan Lake, you must come from the north," said Black Hills National Forest Public Affairs Officer Scott Jacobson. "If you are planning to recreate on the south side of Sheridan Lake, you must come from the south.”
