The Watertown Regional Airport is set to offer direct flights to Minneapolis this summer.
The service replaces the existing direct flight to Chicago, according to the city. The new route begins Aug. 1.
Airport officials say the change is due to “strong interest” from the community in a direct connection to Minneapolis.
Service to Denver, the other major airport Watertown connects to, will continue.
This comes as SkyWest is set to take over as Watertown Regional Airport’s air service provider in June. The Utah-based company replaces Denver Air Connection.
While the flights will be operated by SkyWest, Delta Airlines is servicing the Minneapolis route and United Airlines is servicing Denver. Officials say travelers enrolled in Delta or United mileage programs will benefit from added value on both routes.
