Work is underway on a new Amazon building in Sioux Falls.

Jeff Eckhoff is the city’s director of planning and development services. He said the 5-story building will cover 635,000 square feet.

“So it’s a big building,” Eckhoff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUXD4JYl-PM">told the Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club. “If you drive out there at any given time, just get off I-90 at Marion Road – go north and you can’t miss it.”

Amazon spent about $7 million on 80 acres in Foundation Park, an industrial park in the northwestern part of the city.

The company has not identified the purpose of the building. But a July infrastructure grant application by the Sioux Falls Development Foundation revealed some detail. It said Amazon plans to invest $200 million and create 1,000 jobs in Sioux Falls.

Amazon has announced many new fulfillment-center locations recently. One of the latest announcements was in Fargo.
