Deadwood Gambling Surging To Strong Finish In 2020

SDPB

Gambling revenue from Deadwood casinos is almost even with last year. That’s despite a one-month shutdown in the spring because of the pandemic.

New numbers show 13 percent more wagering this November compared to the same month last year. It’s the latest of several strong months.

So far this year, gamblers have wagered more than $1 billion in the city. This year’s pace is only 4 percent behind last year.

The local Gaming Association says people feel safe in Deadwood. The city requires face coverings in many public settings, and some casinos have additional precautions in place against the spread of COVID-19.

Deadwood is in Lawrence County. The county has reported fewer than 2,505 positive COVID-19 tests and 28 deaths.
