Numbers from the South Dakota Commission on Gaming show Deadwood casinos handled $97 million in wagers last month. That’s a nearly 18% increase over the same month last year.
Mike Rodman is the executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association.
“It’s a trend we’ve been seeing for the last few months and we thing that Deadwood’s made a remarkable recovery from our COVID shutdown.”
Rodman credits the rise in gaming to the city’s safety precautions and to increased patronage from around the country.
He expects growth to continue as entertainment returns to the city and sports wagering is set up. Voters approved sports wagering last year, and the gaming commission is writing rules for it.
