Sesame Street to Remain on SDPB

Sesame Street

A lot of Sesame Street news has been flooding the news feeds about a new deal between Sesame Street and HBO. For those who support SDPB's educational mission and value the role Sesame Street plays in furthering that mission, let us clear the media clutter and get beyond the headlines:

Sesame Street will continue to air on SDPB as part of our PBS KIDS weekday lineup.

We would have preferred it went another way, that Sesame Workshop chose to remain only on PBS stations....But this was a business decision for Sesame Workshop and it is an important reminder that those of us who can afford it, must contribute to support SDPB's educational mission. Our early childhood education content does not begin and end with Sesame Street. In fact, that lineup is more robust than ever, with new research constantly revealing the strong impact programs like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood have on South Dakota's children.

SDPB is proud to continue providing outstanding, curriculum-based PBS KIDS content. We feel confident in the demonstrated impact it has in helping prepare children for success in school and in life.

PBS KIDS is comprised of more than a dozen series that have been developed with the needs of today’s children in mind and focuses on fundamental academic areas – such as literacy, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) – as well as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity, which research has shown are increasingly important skills in the 21st-century classroom and workplace.

If you are passionate about SDPB and if you believe the content and services are unique to you and your family, please consider showing your support at sdpb.org/donate.Remember - we cannot do it without YOU.
