Sioux Falls police have made an arrest in connection to a homicide investigation.

Officers found the body of a 63-year-old Nigussie Bulti at an apartment near Falls Park Wednesday, according to police spokesperson Sam Clemens. Authorities estimated he had died within the past week.

A witness helped police identify the suspect as Morningstar Jewett. He was already being held in county jail on an unrelated charge.

Jewett told officers he smacked Bulti with a piece of wood during a fight involving Jewett’s girlfriend. Jewett said he doesn’t know how Bulti died.

Jewett faces two counts of aggravated assault and is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

Police said additional charges may be pending.
