Five South Dakotans have been sentenced for their roles in a major interstate drug ring.
The ringleader – 41-year-old Salvador Madrigal of Sioux Falls – faces 33 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota.
Investigators said Madrigal recruited his wife and other members of his family to funnel large amounts of methamphetamine from California to South Dakota. Madrigal's mother assisted in financial transactions while concealing where the money came from.
The four other suspects – two men and two women, all from Sioux Falls – face five years in prison. A sixth co-conspirator will be sentenced in October.
