South Dakota man sentenced in connection to West River drug ring

A South Dakota man is sentenced in connection to a West River meth ring.

Fifty-year-old Chris Janis is being sentenced to six years in a federal prison for conspiracy to distribute meth.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota, Janis distributed meth to Rapid City and Pine Ridge Reservation once it arrived from Colorado.

Earlier this summer, four other South Dakotans were sentenced in connection to the conspiracy.

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He is pursuing a degree in English, Journalism and Secondary Education at Augustana University and planning to graduate in May 2025. He plans to pursue a career in sports journalism.
